Bracken. Bournemouth. Brilliant!

Omnia Space are newbies to Bournemouth, but we're settling in nicely! What a fab town, everyone we've met is really friendly.

Our new building Bracken House is coming along nicely, and will be ready for the September 2014 intake. Bracken is in a great location for the Landsdowne campus of Bournemouth Uni.

So far, all of you who've visited Bracken showflat are impressed with what's on offer. It's been said more than once that they are most spacious student apartments in Bournemouth.  Apartments (studios and 5 bed clusters) are across 6 floors, and the view from the top floors is fantastic! Studios are £129 per week, 5 beds £115 per week. Both include utility bills and internet access.

All apartments are furnished with chic, modern furniture and fittings and each floor has a different accent colour.

The common room is vast - so plenty of opportunity for some post-Uni social there!

If you haven't viewed it yet, come on down! Drop us an email

Portobello Point, Sheffield - new for 2014-15.

It's luxe, it's lovely...it's very popular!

Brand new for 2014-15, is Portobello Point. This great new building with 3, 4 and 5 bed cluster apartments is in a fantastic spot, close to Sheffield University's Engineering and Archeology departments, and in the city centre, just off West Street, which is pretty much the hub of Sheffield student nightlife with its bars, cafés and restaurants.

A highly specified building, with interior design throughout by London-based interior design practice March & White, Portobello Point has a green roof and it’s own gym. There's a lift and common room too.

Portobello Point apartments have large kitchen/living areas and great interior fit out - check out the images here.

The showflat is now open, and we recommend booking your viewing soon, this is proving to be a popular apartment block!

Dam good curry! AND its not all that bad for you!

At Omnia we are always looking for good meal ideas for our Sheffield students, and this is one you have to try and it costs a lot less than your average takeaway =]

This curry has been tested numerous times by our team and is definitely worth a go yourselves!
Serves 4 normal people or 2 very hungry guys!
What you need....
Butter (enough to fry onions, roughly 20-30g)
Onions (1 large white, fine chopped)
Chilli puree (teaspoon)- add more for a spicy kick! =D
Garlic puree (teaspoon)
Ginger paste (teaspoon)
Plain flour (to soak up oil from butter until in a doughy consistency)
Milk (1/2 pint- pint, to start the sauce, not too thin)
Turmeric (2 teaspoons)
Coconut milk (1 can)
Ground almonds (150g bag)
Creamed coconut (1- 50g packet grated into sauce)
Demerara sugar (50g)
Salt (pinch)
Pepper  (pinch)

The way to do it!
1. Melt the butter in a saucepan and fry the onions until soft.
2. Add chilli puree, garlic puree and ginger paste and continue to fry for a minute to infuse oils.
3. Add flour to make a doughy paste to which you then add the milk. Break down the flour in the milk until all the lumps have disappeared, add the turmeric to colour the sauce.
4. Add the coconut milk including the coconut cream that forms at the top of the tin as this adds more flavour.
5. After heating for roughly five minutes, add the almonds (use the whole bag of ground almonds, this will thicken the sauce to a good consistency), grate the creamed coconut into the sauce and simmer on a very low heat for a minute, add the sugar and stir into sauce until dissolved and finally add a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning.
6. Leave to cook for a further 25 minutes on a very low heat, keep covered and stir every couple of minutes to ensure the curry does not burn to the bottom of the pan (if it does stick to the bottom of the pan, don’t worry, use the wooden spoon to scrape it off as this will just be the coconut settling at the bottom).
Omnia Tip: To keep the veggies among you happy cook the sauce separately and add meat or veg  when its cooked.
Serve with rice, naan bread, poppadoms and a good blob of mango chutney. Om nom nom nom!

Sun, Uni and Suspicious Clouds

In Sheffield Summer seems, once again, to have eluded us.

We saw a week back in March and then another in May where we thought maybe, just maybe this is our year... out came the short shorts, low cut tops, sandals and that was just the lads. Devonshire green was full of clowning acts jumping over each other to attract the attention of the finer sex (it worked...), students tanning themselves to the brink of a race change and the odd office worker (such as myself) wishing they had a day off and seriously contemplating a career switch to an ice cream man.... But as predictable as England's football hopes it ended.
The lovely people down in that there London introduced hosepipe bans and ruined it for everyone, stopping the water from our outdoor taps, saying that the lack of rain over the winter had an 'adverse effect' on our water supplies, meaning we could use them no more! The finer beings around must have got wind of this and thought we could do with a months rain in 3 days... after all winter was so nice.

But even still despite the lack of sun, the world moves on, Uni students come and go, results are released and festivals are messy.

At Omnia we have started our student move out process, summer maintenance has begun and the rooms are being cleared of the past years antics. We want to make sure that all is fresh for you guys in September. The painters are in (no jokes) and the events are being arranged =D

Obviously we don't go anywhere in the summer, we stay in the steel city to keep an eye on whats what, if you're in the same boat as us, one thing you're sure to have seen around the city are the artistic T's of Tramlines, a great event to head to if you have any love for live music! With the likes of We Are Scientists, (Sheffield's finest) Reverend and the Makers, Frankie and the Heart Strings, plus a few other small artists like Ms Dynamite! It's definitely not to be missed, un-ticketed and free... Cant get better than that... I lie, it can get better, its all pretty good topped off by a visit to Bloo 88 on West Street, just opposite our new building 165 West Street, for one of the best pizzas I have ever had! And then top that off with one the cocktails and you're ready to head back out to the evenings events.

If musics not your thing then how about a film or 2, Batman's latest shinanagons are unveiled to the public tomorrow night and I for 1 will not be missing it! After seeing the 1st and 2nd films countless times over the past few years this is eagerly awaited to say the least!
